October 14: Introduction to Archives (Omeka Map Analysis Due)

Read Miller, “Archives and Historical Manuscripts,” and Rosenzweig, “Scarcity or Abundance? Preserving the Past in a Digital Age,” both available on Electronic Course Reserve.  Miller’s essay introduces the field of archives and archival management, while Rosensweig’s essay examines how the proliferation of information in digital formats presents both challenges and opportunities for historians.
